Motion capture

The use of motion capturing techniques allows us to gain insights into the displacement (how the body moves) in a power standing wheelchair throughout the stand sequence. 

In this example, motion capture data was used to give insights into the displacement of an individual within the wheelchair as they move from sitting to standing and back to sitting.

Motion capture allows movement to be tracked and recorded in 3D by using a series of cameras which enables us to track specific points digitally. 

Displacement results

• Location with the most movement: iliac crest - 16mm (0.63 inches)
• The majority of the other locations used moved less than 10mm (0.4 inches)
• Head position moved 7.8mm (0.3 inches) down and 3.4mm (0.1 inches) backward
