Kieran & the Sliders - Powerchair Hockey

Kieran has used a powerchair since he was three years old. For most of his life, that fact has come with a set of assumptions made by other people: that disability is something sad, something to be pitied, a subject best avoided. This short film is his quiet rejection of all of that.

Kieran is a powerchair hockey player who has represented Australia at three World Cups and is now, in his own words, becoming a veteran of the sport. The game gave him something he never expected growing up, a community that stretches across the world, friendships in places he'd never otherwise have reached, and the pride of competing for his country.

The film below follows his perspective on what the sport has meant to him. Not as a story of overcoming, but as a story of belonging. Kieran doesn't view his chair as a limitation; he sees it as technology, the same way anyone relies on the tools of their era. At it's core, the film is about inclusion, the idea that there's always something someone can do.
